Germany. Edmund Beckmann Æ Plaque, Sow. 1920. Resting Sow on bronze plaquette. 105.5mm x 71mm. Signed E.B.1920. Almost Uncirculated and with wonderful patina. Excessively Rare.After a change in governance, Beckmann fled Nazi Germany after being ousted from his job as head of arts in Frankfurt Art School by Hitler, who openly denounced his style of work as Culturally Bolshevik. He and his wife went to the Netherlands and he continued to design and paint works of a growing darkness. Beckmann eventually moved to Washington USA where he succumbed to a heart attack in 1950.
