Ancient Rome. Γ Sestertius. 225β227 AD. Rome Mint.
This beautiful bronze sestertius features Sallustia Barbia Orbiana, briefly empress and wife of Severus Alexander. Her diademed bust graces the obverse, while Concordia β the goddess of harmony β is shown seated with a patera and double cornucopiae on the reverse.
Despite her short reign, Orbianaβs coins remain highly desirable, especially with such a strong and expressive portrait. This example is well-preserved and exhibits better than Very Fine detail, with light tooling visible in the obverse legend.

π Why it matters
Orbiana was exiled after falling out with her mother-in-law Julia Mamaea, making her coins scarce. This sestertius reflects a turbulent moment in the Severan dynasty β and offers collectors a fascinating insight into Roman imperial politics and artistry.
